Among the three Republican primary election battles for a Northwest Iowa legislative seat is a contest for the Iowa House District 3 seat.

Incumbent Republican Zach Dieken of O’Brien County is not seeking re-election after four years in the Legislature, and two political newcomers are seeking to succeed him in the post.

The Republican candidates are Keith Glienke, of Aurelia, and Michael Schnoes, of Sutherland.

Early voting is underway and the winner of the primary election votes will be determined at the conclusion of June 2 voting.

Schnoes is an industrial technology teacher at Alta-Aurelia High School. He said state government is continually overreaching its authority.

Glienke is a grain and livestock farmer. Glienke has said he aims to improve the climate for business.

There is no Democrat running for the Iowa House District 5 seat.

Iowa House District 5 covers O’Brien, Cherokee, Buena Vista and Osceola counties.
