As droughts across the Siouxland area continue, there are rising concerns about the long-term effects.
A report released Thursday by the National Weather Service shows that parts of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota are in a moderate drought while other areas are abnormally dry.
The NWS seasonal drought outlook says the conditions will persist or more areas will likely develop a drought. The outlook is valid until July 31, 2026; however, the agency will continue to provide updates.
Additionally, farmers in Nebraska started expressing concern, saying if drought conditions continue, they will have to change their operations.
In 2022, producers changed their operations to deal with a similar problem.
Some changes farmers may have to make include how cattle are fed, the timeframe of planting, restrictions on irrigation, and many other alterations. With all the changes, the prices of food supplies will increase.
