Nearing record high, Siouxland gas prices surge well past $4 per gallon after big one day jump

Gas prices surged past $4 per gallon in one day in Sioux City, with a jump of 40 to 50 cents per gallon on Monday at many stations.

The increase to $4.29 per gallon for regular unleaded self-serve was also seen in surrounding towns such as Lawton an Moville,

Moreover, gas and diesel prices in Iowa are nearing record highs.

AAA on Tuesday reported the average price in Iowa was $4.14 per gallon. That is substantially up since the weekly report of $3.84 on April 29, when the state average was 88 cents more than one year ago,

The average national average is $4.48 now in the opening days of May.

Additionally, the average price for a gallon of gas in South Dakota on May 1 went above $4 per gallon.That is the priciest gas in South Dakota since the $3.99 in May 2022.

Gas prices hit $3 per gallon mark in Iowa the first week in March, and have trended upwards in fast fashion in the weeks since.

The prices spiked as the Strait of Hormuz is being greatly blocked from shipping oil from Mideast nations. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said prices have surged the highest nationally in the Great Lakes region.
