Nearly two years after historic flooding in parts of Siouxland, federal money to help towns and people in recovery continues to periodically arrive.

In late April, it was announced that money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be routed to the towns of Spencer and Cherokee, plus also Buena Vista County.

The city of Spencer will receive $2.3 million from FEMA, while Cherokee is in line for $1.4 million, and the Buena Vista County Conservation Board, which will receive $2.2 million.

Those totals were announced by Congressman Randy Feenstra. All those places were hit by June 2024 flooding, and the money can be used for important infrastructure repairs and wastewater treatment facility upgrades.
