James "Jim"Vermeer
Spencer is a town in Clay County, Iowa.

There is a new member of the Spencer (Iowa) City Council, after a special election on Tuesday.

James Vermeer narrowly won the position, getting 187 votes, compared to the 178 for for Duane Bates for the Spencer Council Ward 4 seat.

The council position for Ward 4 opened when Donavan Wunschel was elected mayor of Spencer in November. The council members originally appointed Duane Bates, but then people by petition contested that move, forcing the special election.

There is one more vacancy on the Spencer council. There will be one more special election, on April 28, when the only candidate on the ballot is Julie Beehler.
