The City of Sioux City announced on Thursday it intends to appoint interim city manager Mike Collett as the new city manager.

Former city manager Bob Padmore retired in April and the search for his replacement began shortly after.

Collett has been serving in the role of interim city manager since then.

He has been serving the city since 2007 in multiple capacities, including assistant city manager and director of administrative services.

In the statement, mayor Bob Scott said Collett’s extensive knowledge of city operations, collaborative, and steady approach make him the right person for the position.

City council members interviewed three finalists for the position in July 2025, with one withdrawing his application and another declining the offer.

When the position wasn’t filled, the city council decided to pause the search, and Collett would continue to act as interim city manager until the end of the 2027 budget process.

The city council will vote on the action during its meeting on April 6th.
