Firefighters continue to battle wildfires throughout South Dakota that started late last week.
According to the incident information website, as of Thursday, the fire in the Black Hills area had burned more than 9,000 acres of land.
Mike Reed, operations section chief of SD Wildland Fire, provided an update on Thursday, saying dry conditions are expected to continue across the state, with low winds giving him and the rest of the firefighters hope they will remain successful containing the fire.
According to officials, the fire is 44 percent contained, and they are confident the work completed will hold through current weather conditions.
According to its website, FEMA awarded a fire management assistance grant to help the state extinguish fires.
Additionally, firefighters continue to fight wildfires in the western area of Nebraska.
Governor Jim Pillen issued a burn ban until March 27th to reduce the potential for additional fires.
As of Thursday the fire near the Lincoln area had burned approximately 128,036 acres of land and is 78 percent contained.
