Two Iowa school districts approve funding measures

Residents in two Iowa school districts voted in favor of funding measures on Tuesday.

People in the Sibley-Ocheyedan district voted to renew a physical plant and equipment levy tax rate, increasing it from from $.67 to $1.00 per $1,000 of taxable property valuation.

The unofficial results show 650 people voted in favor while 357 against the measure.

PPEL money in Iowa can be used to pay for schools, technology, buses, and equipment.

The levy will last for ten years and was going to expire at the end of this year.

Previously, voters were asked if they approved a levy increase of $1.34 per $1,000 but it failed both times.

Additionally, voters in the Emmetsburg Community School district approved a renewal of a revenue purpose statement. The unofficial votes show 296 people voted in favor and 126 voted against the measure.

In November, the school district rejected a $25 million bond to build a new elementary school.
