The North Sioux City Commission awarded a contract to Reede Construction Inc. for the Northshore Drive reconstruction project in its meeting Monday.

The commission received eleven bids for the project on February 25th, with four bidders under the estimated cost. The Northshore reconstruction project will replace the roadway and sidewalks.

Reede Construction of Aberdeen had the lowest bid at $3.7 million, and the Alliance Construction of Sioux Falls had the highest bid of $44 million.

Previously, the project was estimated to cost $4.1 million. According to a memo, the engineering firm attributed the difference in price to fluctuating material costs and a competitive bid environment.

During its meeting, the commission also discussed the McCook grading project and the Northshore Drive realignment project. The realignment project is a plan to construct a new highway bypassing the existing Northshore Drive and is federally funded.

In June 2024, a flooding event severely damaged many homes throughout the area and the existing Northshore Drive.
