Siouxland legislators are commenting on the State of the Union Address President Donald Trump gave on Tuesday.

During the address, Trump focused on immigration, medication prices, and insider trading, although it remains unclear how he plans to tackle the issues.

He also mentioned he wants funding to be restored to the Department of Homeland Security.

Trump failed to acknowledge the economic struggles people are facing across the country.

Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra, a Republican, commended Trump, saying during his first year the president's accomplishments include lowering inflation, rebuilding the economy, and strengthening trade deals for farmers.

Former Iowa legislator and current candidate, Dave Dawson, a Democrat said he did not hear real solutions for rural communities, the impacts of tariffs on farmers, and making health care more affordable.
