The Harris Lake Park students started to attend classes in the new elementary school building on Tuesday.
Previously two studies determined the former building had various issues, including maintenance problems, building code violations, and safety concerns. It was also assessed that the renovations of the former building would cost the same amount as constructing a new facility.
In November 2023, voters of the Harris Lake Park Community school district approved an $18 million bond for the project.
The new elementary school connects to the middle and high school building.
Construction of the elementary school was completed in early February.
It's still undetermined what will happen to the former building.
