The Lancaster County District Court dismissed a lawsuit against Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen.
In September, Common Cause Nebraska filed the lawsuit to prevent Secretary Evnen from delivering voter information to the Department of Justice.
The lawsuit argues that only state officials should control the state’s voter information. It also says releasing information will violate both voter privacy and Nebraska law.
In a press release sent Wednesday, Evnen said he would provide a list of the state voter registration to the DOJ on Thursday, and the information will include the last four digits of social security numbers and dates of birth.
He said he is dedicated to protecting their personal information from misuse.
Evnen said Nebraska is in compliance with election law and is grateful the DOJ is reviewing other states to be sure that they are in compliance as well.
The release states a petitioner filed an order to block the action and was denied.
According to Common Cause Nebraska, the appeal is still active with a hearing date of March 31st.
The request for voter registration data stems from efforts by the Trump administration to investigate past elections. In Nebraska, a list of registered voters is publicly accessible for a fee.
The DOJ has filed lawsuits against at least 18 states to collect their voter data.
