The Sioux City Public Museum, along with the Pho Mon Temple of Sioux City, is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday.

Lunar New Year is a 15-day festival that marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year.

Peggy La, one of the organizers, told Siouxland Public Media that the Lunar New Year is celebrated by many Asian countries, including Taiwan, China, and Vietnam.

La explained 2026 is the year of the fire horse, a year about clarity.

She said around 150 people came to the Lunar New Year celebration last year and is expecting the same amount this year.

La said for her, Lunar New Year is about family and community coming together, eating, playing games, and celebrating.

The celebration at the Sioux City Public Museum will include dancing, crafts, and stories.
