There was a collision of two vehicles in the northside of Sioux City on Wednesday, with one of the vehicles being driven by an ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer.

Sioux City Police Department Spokesman Tom Gill told Siouxland Public Media News the collision took place in the 3700 block of Jackson Street. Gill said the ERO official was pursuing a driver in a car, then that person drove into the ERO vehicle.

The person was taken into custody, Gill added. He had no information if the person was a citizen or undocumented, or why the ERO official was pursuing the driver.

Gill said the department’s sole role in the incident was to write the collision report. There was $7,000 in damage to the government vehicle and $2,000 to the other car.

In a time of heightened U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, enforcement activities, there have been increasing reports nationally of wrecks involving ICE-related personnel and other people.
