A new housing development in Dickinson County, Iowa, could be coming just south of the city of Spirit Lake.

The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors in their Tuesday meeting voted to begin the process of designating 80 acres of land south of Spirit Lake and west of Francis sites as an urban renewal area.

According to Explore Okoboji News, a developer plans to construct single family housing on the land. The first phase on the north 40 acres was recently re-zoned by the county for the proposed project.

The developer is requesting the urban renewal area to pave the way for future tax increment financing, or TIF, rebate request from the county.

That TIF rebate could play a key role in the project, to help build streets and extend utilities to the site.
