Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen shared his executive budget proposal Thursday during his state of the state address.
Nebraska is currently facing a $471 million budget deficit. To offset the shortfall, Pillen is proposing spending reductions for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 fiscal year.
The proposal includes transferring funds from cash funds to the general fund, spending reductions, cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services, and eliminating retroactive Medicaid eligibility.
DHHS is facing a proposed $22 million reduction for the current fiscal year and $130 million for the next fiscal year.
Pillen said the result of this budget will mean a $500 million improvement to the state’s financial stability over the next two years.
