The Innovate Siouxland nonprofit group is aiming to open an Innovation Center for many uses in downtown Sioux City within two years.

A City of Sioux City Facebook post this week describes the three-story center being placed at 308 Iowa Street, adjacent to Historic Fourth Street.

The Innovation Center is projected to be a place to help entrepreneurs, creators, and small businesses turn ideas into action: “Whether you’re a foodie, techie, creative, or startup dreamer, this space is built to support every stage of business growth,” the post said.

The project is a partnership between the City of Sioux City, Western Iowa Tech Community College, Siouxland Public Media, and Iowa's West Coast Initiative.

The city bought the former warehouse building, which will need a makeover, a few years ago. Architectural design is underway, and fundraising is expected to begin in 2026.

Former Sioux City Councilman Alex Watters said he has seen such centers in other towns and that it has fine potential.

The Innovation Center will feature a food hall, shared commercial kitchen, coworking and classroom space, technology and innovation labs, performance and presentation areas, a broadcasting studio, meeting rooms, and more.
