Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced earlier this week he plans to introduce the Iowa Farm Act in the legislative session.
The act has multiple objectives, including expanding economic opportunities, delivering tax relief, and supporting beginning farmers.
Some ways the act aims to achieve the goals are by connecting schools with Iowa farmers and producers, expanding the retired farmer rental income tax, and helping new farmers secure funding.
In addition to the proposal, Secretary Naig is requesting a 1.6 percent budget increase of $1.3 million to maintain essential operations such as animal health, food safety, and consumer protection.
