The Sioux City Council unanimously voted on deleting the second hearing of the rezoning ordinance of a property from the agenda in its meeting Monday.

Dolf Ivener, owner of the property at 3700 Jefferson Street, asked city council to remove the second hearing of the rezoning ordinance from the agenda.

“We have been working on the project, trying to get something together, and I think we can make the whole neighborhood happy and have everything move forward,” said Ivener.

Ivener originally requested that the property be rezoned from commercial to industrial; the item had been deferred twice.

Many residents had come to both meetings expressing their concerns about the rezoning of the property, saying it would devalue surrounding properties, increase traffic, and bring more noise.

Previously, the council voted 3-2 in favor of the first hearing of the ordinance, and then they voted 5-0 to defer the second consideration.

In September of last year there was an attempt to rezone the property from commercial to industrial, but it was denied.

The property had been rezoned from industrial to commercial in 2015.
