Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig visited the Sioux Honey Association on Monday.

During his visit at the Sioux Honey Association, Naig highlighted concerns with pollinators, crops, and trade.

Naig noted that Iowa is expected to have a historic corn and soybean harvest this year; with such strong yield, he emphasized the importance of maximizing domestic production of biofuels, ethanol, and sustainable aviation fuel.

He said that there are concerns from farmers about tariffs, but there is optimism in what can be achieved through better trade agreements.

He also addressed the potential for expanded trade relationships, particularly with India.

He noted that products such as soybean meal and dried distillers grains are seen as export opportunities, as they cannot be produced domestically in India.

When asked how much grain India might purchase from Iowa, Naig responded that it is part of a broader ongoing conversation.
