A second Sioux City School Board member announced Wednesday that he is seeking re-relection in November.
Jan George told Siouxland Public Media News that he wants to extend his service on the school board of directors.
“Over the last four years the district has made some real strides in improving the academic success of our students, and I want to make sure that continues,” George said, citing the field of special education and English Language Learning.
He said he takes the right approach to serving on a school board, by carrying out respectful debate.
“It is important that board members look for the best practices to be solution and data driven. As a former educator, that’s how I operated and believe that’s the best path forward in making this district a destination district,” George said,
There are three Sioux City School Board members who have expiring terms at the end of this year. Bobby Michaelson last week said he will seek a second term, after first being elected in 2021.
The third board member with an expiring term, Dan Greenwell, has said he is contemplating running again, and took out nomination papers for that.
The filing period for school board candidates in Iowa runs through September 18.
