One week after taking a leave of absence right as the school year was about to start, Sioux City School District Superintendent Juan Cordova is back working in his new role.

In a closed meeting held on Friday, August 22,, the Sioux City School Board approved a leave of absence for newly appointed Superintendent Cordova.

On Friday, Siouxland Public Media News asked district spokeswoman Leslie Heying if there was a specific length of time for the leave of absence. She replied that Cordova had returned to his work on Thursday, August 28.

Heying added that she could provide no more information on this personnel matter.

Today marks the end of the first week of school in the Sioux City School District.

There was a vacancy in the Sioux City School District after Superintendent Rod Earleywine retired after three years.

Cordova was hired in the spring after working in a Missouri school, and began his Sioux City role on July 1.
