The Republican National Convention in which Donald Trump will be nominated as the party’s presidential nominee for a third time will wrap up Thursday evening.
Trump will give his acceptance speech, and one of the tri-state Republican delegates is looking forward to what he will share. Speaking by phone from the Milwaukee convention, Teresa Paulsrud of Danbury, Iowa, said she expects to hear a very good speech.
“I am expecting to hear him have a real tempered, but powerful and unifying message for us tonight,” Paulsrud said.
Inspiring is a word she used many times to describe the four days of the convention, along with the events being “electrifying.”
Paulsrud is a longtime Ida County Republican Party official, and attending the national convention as a delegate allows her to carry out an item she placed on her lifetime bucket list about 15 years ago.
Earlier this morning, she attended a morning event where he heard Vice President Nominee J.D. Vance and South Dakota Governor Krisiti Noem discuss the 2024 presidential race. Paulsrud expects border security and international conflicts discussions will be much of the topics aired by Republicans over the next four months to the November election.
*Additionally, a Siouxland man will run in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris this year.
Ben Jefferies, who won three national titles at the NAIA level for Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, has qualified for the Olympics.
He will run for his native nation of Great Britain in the 400 meters and likely a track relay race too. Jefferies plans to go back to England by July 21, to prepare for the big festivities in Paris.
Jefferies spoke after making the team in a press call set up by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
“The emotions are super overwhelming,” he said.
“Seeing the reactions from some of the people who have supported me along the way is kind of what fuels me with that joy, and lets (Olympics officials) know that their trust in me was well placed.”
“I think what I was able to perform and achieve has definitely opened the eyes of some people of what I am capable of. Running the regular 400 (meters) helps out with being picked for the 400 Relay too.”
A few weeks ago, Jefferies ran his all-time best time of 45.6 seconds to finish second in the Great Britain track trials in Manchester, which earned him a spot on the national team.

Jefferies is currently a Briar Cliff track assistant coach. He won NAIA titles in the 400 meters, in 2021 and 2022, covering both indoor and outdoor championships.
