BREAKING: School shooting in Perry, Iowa, injures multiple people

Multiple people were injured in a school shooting Thursday morning in Perry, Iowa.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation held a press conference at 10:15 a.m., and announced they were unsure how many injuries had occurred to people located in the school. Previous to that, the sheriff had said the school had been secured, as emergency officials worked on the scene.

The shooting took place just after 7:30 a.m. in the school district with roughly 1,800 students.

The shooting took place at Perry Middle School and High School, which are connected.

Perry is located about 30 miles northwest of Des Moines.

A White House official said President Joe Biden was tracking the situation shortly after it occurred. Biden has frequently spoken on the necessity of taking action to reduce mass shootings that take place in the nation.
