Sioux City's Unemployment Rate Is Down

Unemployment in metro Sioux City inched down to 4.1% in February. Employers added 100 non-farm jobs, according to state data released by the state Tuesday.

The jobless rate in Sioux City Metropolitan Statistical area, which includes Woodbury and Plymouth counties in Iowa, Dakota and Dixon counties in Nebraska, and Union County in South Dakota -- fell slightly from 4.3% in January, according to Iowa Workforce. Iowa’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.6%.
 
All Woodbury County residents 16 and older can sign up for the coronavirus vaccine today, beginning at 3:00 p.m. The next clinics are slated for April 6 and 8 at the Siouxland Expo Center. These clinics will be using the Pfizer vaccine.  Go to siouxlanddistricthealth.org to sign up. Today Siouxland District Health reports 31 new cases of COVID 19 in Woodbury County, and 14, 482 total. 
The 14-day positivity rate has gone up slightly to 6.9%. Union County had five new positive cases yesterday, and Dakota County had 21 new cases of the coronavirus last week.

In Nebraska, some residents are scouring the internet in search of an appointment to get a shot.
Local health officials remain focused on vaccinating people aged 50 and older, although some public health districts in rural areas also offer the shots to all adults. Officials have said they expect to make the vaccines available to the general public statewide by late April or early May.
