More Time for Presidential Candidates to Request "Recanvass" of Caucus Results

020720 404

The Iowa Democratic Party has extended until Monday a deadline for presidential candidates to request a review of the results of this week's Iowa presidential caucuses. Originally, the candidates had until today at noon to request a review.

The decision follows the caucus night debacle in collecting votes from caucus sites that led to a dayslong delay in reporting the results and inconsistencies in the numbers.

It then took until yesterday for the state party to issue what it said are its complete results. Amid the irregularities, The Associated Press has decided it is unable to declare a winner based on the available information.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino General Manager Jim Franke announced his resignation this morning at a Missouri River Historical Development meeting.

Franke became the casino's GM in March 2018, replacing previous GM Todd Moyer.  He cited personal reasons for resigning.

The South Dakota House yesterday passed a bill that would criminalize agents who facilitate commercial surrogate pregnancies in the state. The bill aims to make South Dakota one of a handful of states to ban commercial surrogacy contracts.

The proposal would make acting as a surrogacy agent a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. The bill exempts “altruistic" surrogate pregnancies and allows for the surrogate and child's health care costs to be covered. It also calls for the Legislature to study the issue over the next year.
