01.15.20 304

President Donald Trump signed the first phase of a new trade deal with China this morning.

Part of the agreement includes China buying more soybeans and other U.S. farm products.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem were by Trump’s side in Washington, D.C.

Noem mentioned the potential positive impact for farmers during her “State of the State” speech yesterday in Pierre.

“I have a deep appreciation for the President for his commitment and leadership to mend this U.S. China Trade Agreement.”

Two Siouxland area farmers also joined Noem in Washington; Jerry Schmitz is a soybean farmer from Vermillion and Craig Anderson raises hogs in nearby Centerville.

Tomorrow, two political events will take place in Sioux City.  The daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, Lara Trump will be part of a “Women for Trump Bus Tour” that stops in Sioux City.  The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Country Celebrations Events Center.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg campaigns in northwest Iowa with stops tomorrow in Emmetsburg, Arnolds Park, Orange City.  He caps off the day with a town hall at West Middle School in Sioux City at 7 p.m.

Then on Friday, former Vice President Joe Biden visits Western Iowa Tech Community College.  He will appear at the Rocklin Conference Center on campus at 12:45 p.m
