The topic of cybersecurity took center stage at a Town Hall at the Hard Rock this morning.  

Senior Special Agent from the Omaha office of the FBI Ken Schmutz says cybercrime impact everyone from businesses to individuals.

“We want to work these investigations and learn how these adversaries get in and on the criminal side put them in jail and to further protect our infrastructure from these guys.”

Schmutz says 70-percent of hackers come from outside of the United States mainly from the countries of China, Russia and Iran.

When asked if was concerned is about cyber security and our elections.  All he could say the FBI is helping work on the issue.

A few dozen business leaders attended the event that included a panel of technology leaders in the region.

Iowa Republican Governor Kim Reynolds says she’s asking President Trump to help the ethanol industry.

That’s after Trump reportedly okayed exemptions that lowered demand for the corn-based biofuel.

The move sparked outrage from elected officials and Iowa corn growers who say it’s a blow to the ethanol industry.  

Monte Shaw is the executive director of the Iowa Renewable fuels association.  Shaw says the Trump administration has broken its promises to Iowan’s who are already going through some tough economic times. 

An ethanol plant in Merrill has been shut down for four weeks because of the exemptions.  

Several Midwestern states are joining together to try to identify bottlenecks along the Missouri River that can cause waters to back up and worsen flooding in certain areas.

The proposal comes after two rounds of devastating flooding this year caused billions of dollars of damage in Midwestern states.

A meeting about spring flooding along the Missouri River is taking place this afternoon at 2 at City Hall in North Sioux City.

U.S. Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota is expected to attend the Senate subcommittee as well as representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Iowa Representative Steve King is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting tomorrow at noon at the American Legion in Milford, Iowa.

The Associated Press says King he will not be taking questions from reporters before or after the event.

Morningside College has announced the speaker for this year’s Waitt Lecture.

Investigative reporter Bob Woodward who first reporter on Watergate will speak on October 9th at Eppley Auditorium. 

He’s expected to talk about the state of the American presidency and the Iowa Caucuses.
