Democrat J.D. Scholten says today he will make a second run for the 4thcongressional seat. It’s been held for 17 years by conservative Republican Rep. Steve King.
Scholten says political analysts around the country said that nobody could get close to defeating King. But Scholten says last year his campaign debunked that idea, losing to King by only three percentage points, instead of the usual 20.
going out to all 39 counties, multiple times, most of them six times. Scholten got 25 thousand more votes than there were registered Democrats in the 4thdistrict.

Scholten is a former minor league baseball player and a paralegal. Scholten says he'll focus on issues such as health care and the economy. He is holding a rally tonight in downtown Sioux City and another rally tomorrow in Ames.
King also will face competition candidates in the Republican primary from Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, State Senator Randy Feenstra of Hull, and former Irwin Mayor Brett Richards. King’s statements about race and immigration create concern and led him to be stripped of his committee assignments.
U.S. Highway 75 between Sioux City and Hinton will be closed during nighttime hours next week while the Iowa Department of Transportation repairs pavement on the two lanes that are not currently under construction.
Beginning Aug. 12, the IDOT will close U.S. 75 from Plymouth County Road C-80 just north of Sioux City to the south city limits of Hinton from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day. Work is scheduled to be completed on Aug. 16, weather permitting.
