Former VP Joe Biden to Campaign in Siouxland Next Week, West Nile Virus Returns, 5:04

Iowa has its first confirmed human case of West Nile virus this year.

The Iowa Public Health Department said Friday the Audubon County man is 61 to 80 years old and has recovered.

the department's medical director Dr. Caitlin Pedati says that until the state's first hard frost, being outside means there's a risk for West Nile virus infection from mosquitoes.

104 Iowans were diagnosed with West Nile virus last year and nine died.

The state supreme court says Nebraska's corrections director won't have to testify before lawmakers about the state's lethal injection protocol or how prison officials obtained the drugs used in an execution last year.

The court sided today with the state corrections department, which sought to block a subpoena from the Judiciary Committee that would have required corrections director Scott Frakes to answer questions about his department's lethal injection practices.

The Committee ordered Frakes to appear at a public hearing last year, months before Nebraska executed its first inmate by lethal injection. Committee members issued the subpoena after a complaint from state Sen. Ernie Chambers, a death penalty opponent who wanted to question Frakes under oath.

Former VP Joe Biden will make two stops in Northwest Iowa when he returns to campaign in the Hawkeye state.  The Democratic Presidential candidate will attend a multi-candidate forum in Des Moines on Monday, and his campaign has slated other stops, including Sioux City and Le Mars on Tuesday.

A life-size bronze statue of the United States' 44th president will be unveiled in Rapid City Saturday. The likeness of Barack Obama will be added to the collection of 43 other presidential statues in the downtown area, beginning with George Washington.
