Steve King Opponent Feensta Quits Ways and Means Committee, 4:32

A Republican state senator who is challenging U.S. Rep. Steve King for the GOP nomination in Iowa's 4th Congressional District says he's stepping down as chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

The committee has been at the center of significant tax legislation since Republicans regained the majority in 2016.  Feenstra says he's asked to be involved next year in drafting tax policy, just not as committee chairman.

He's in his third Senate term.

Sen. Randy Feenstra said today he wants to spend more time on his congressional campaign. King's son Jeff King has called Feenstra's run misguided political opportunism.

Feenstra is among several people expected to seek the GOP nomination. Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor is also running.

Blue Bunny Ice Cream today unveiled year-long renovations to its Le Mars ice cream parlor. Wells Enterprises celebrated its grand reopening alongside Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

They’ve been working to remodel the parlor and make it more interactive for tourists. The parlor currently serves around 240-thousand people annually, but company C-E-O Mike Wells says he hopes they can double that.

((0612wells   0:15)) One of the single best things we can do is drive the economic engine in the community of Le Mars by making this a successful tourist attraction that draws those kinds of numbers to our community every day to contribute and to experience what a great thing we have going on in here in Le Mars.

Governor Reynolds praised the company for its contributions to Le Mars, and to Iowa’s dairy industry. She said she can’t wait to bring her grandchildren to the parlor.
