Built in 1995, the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City has seen minor problems over the years that have been addressed. However in the last three to four years structural issues have become noticeable.

Floors and some of the fill underneath the Nature Center have been settling, causing cracks in the floors.

Dan Heissel, Director of the Conservation Board, told Siouxland Public Media on Thursday, “they are injecting foam into those voids under the concrete so the concrete will no longer settle so they are trying to stabilize everything where it’s at right now.”

Heissel estimates the repairs will cost $86,000.

Contractors are working with the Nature Center on the days that it is closed. While the Center is under construction it is still open to the public.
