Your help not only makes our fund drive possible, it makes our entire being possible. As a listener supported, community-centric organization, this station is created for you, supported by you, and designed to serve you. We extend our most sincere thanks.
This spring's drive will run from April 24-April 28, and our goal is to raise $65,000.00. Community support accounts for approximately 1/3 of our operational budget. Money raised from the community is used to pay for programming, including NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, which, alongside of NPR membership, costs $54,935 per year.
As a volunteer, you should have already received a calendar invitation bookmarking the time when you are scheduled to join us. If you have not yet been to our station, we are located on the campus of Western Iowa Tech Community College. You will find us about 3/4 of the way around the college drive, just after a big metal COMETS monument. Please feel welcome to park in our lot. Arriving 10-15 minutes early should give you enough time to settle in.
We know that talking on-air may seem a bit intimidating, but we promise that it is painless. After the first few moments, the microphones sink into the background, and you will feel like you are having a conversation with friends. Which is exactly what you are doing! To be sure that things run smoothly, we will have an announcer on-air with you who will control the equipment, manage the time, and direct the conversation.
You may be asking yourself, "but what will I talk about?" It is especially helpful to tell your listeners why you contribute to SPM. Is it for the news? For the music? For the connection to the community? Is there a story that you remember listening to that demonstrates the power of public radio? If you do have thoughts about what you would like to say, please let the announcer know so that we can lead into your story.
And be sure to "say the numbers!" We want everyone listening to know that they can make a donation by calling (712) 276-3690. Donations can also be made by going to our website, kwit.org (see the "Donate" button above), or by texting SPM to 44-321.

While you are volunteering, you may have to answer the phones. When you do, all that is necessary is to lead the caller through the donation page. Please take some time now to review it.
Remember that the phones are in the studio, and the microphones might be hot. Please be careful not to repeat any information you are given lest it go over the air.
Premiums are our way of saying "thank you." This fund drive, we are offering coffee mugs, tote bags, SPM branded baseball caps, and a Coffee Membership. Those supporters with sustaining memberships (automatically recurring donations) are eligible for a premium whenever their membership renews.
For those who prefer to give forward, a donation of $240 will make them eligible for 20 PPAs. These announcements can be used at will and help to promote the missions and/or events of other nonprofits. An example PPA may say, "Support for Siouxland Public Media comes from Mark Munger on behalf of his other favorite nonprofit whose mission is to support the Siouxland community. His other favorite nonprofit will be holding a summer's eve gala on March 29. To find out more, visit this website."
Let everyone know you will be joining the fund drive and that they should donate while you're on the air! It is truly a thrill to have the phones ring, and it's even more fun when you get to thank your friends on the radio. In our experience, there is no greater sense of the community, it's warmth and embrace.
Challenge your friends through text, email, and social media! With our new donation platform, you can help SPM reach its goal by creating your own donation page. From our donation page, click "I Want To Fundraise For This." From there, you can create an account, set your goal, and start challenging everyone you know.
We thank you again for being a part of Siouxland Public Media's cause! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Call us at 712-274-6406 or email info@kwit.org.
