COVID Case Closes Riverside Pool

Iowa has added 247 new cases of the coronavirus since yesterday,  reported 43,144 cases of the novel coronavirus, and 839 deaths. In Northwest Iowa, Woodbury County has tallied 3,576 cases and 47 deaths.

Nebraska had 258 new cases since yesterday, and a total of 25,157 cases, and 321 deaths.

South Dakota has 48 new coronavirus cases today with a total of 8,492 cases and 123 deaths. 

The Riverside Aquatic Center was abruptly closed yesterday, after city officials announced a lifeguard who worked at the pool tested positive for COVID-19. The closure was announced late yesterday afternoon.

As of today, in an effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, everyone getting on a Sioux City transit bus or entering a city building will be required to wear a mask or face covering.  Also, the Sioux City Public Museum has announced today that visitors will to the museum will also be required to wear masks. 

This year's Remsen Oktoberfest celebration has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, organizers said.

The annual event, which is annually held on the last weekend in October, is slated to return next year.

The statue of Abraham Lincoln on the southern end of Grandview Park was found vandalized this morning, the latest in a string of vandalism incidents at the park. 

Sioux City Police Sgt. Jeremy McClure said the department took a report of the vandalism around 6:30 a.m., and that the vandalism may have taken place during the overnight hours.
