This What’s The Frequency show digs deeply into details on the possible creation of a data center in the tiny Woodbury County town of Salix.
This possibility has become probably the most watched ongoing business and lifestyle story of the last six months in Siouxland. At the same time, lots of counties in the three Siouxland states are passing moratoriums concerning the placement of data centers in their counties.
This is the second longform Frequency show in a month on the Salix possibility, because this is a story with lots of changing elements.
The most recent piece of news from August 19 is that the Salix Council will not place moratorium on a possible data center in town.
Salix is facing a legal challenge from Woodbury County over the city’s annexation process. The land would still need to be rezoned before a data center could move forward.
Joining me for this show are Salix Mayor Kevin Nelson and Woodbury County Board of Supervisors member Matthew Ung.
The county supervisors two months ago put in place a 12 month moratorium on data centers in Woodbury County, and set three community meetings to help vet details.
The first of those meetings takes place in Sloan, Iowa on the evening of Monday, August 31.
Ung airs what he is anticipating with that session, in terms of turnout and topics aired.
