We have had lots of news items and full Frequency shows recently on the administration of the Sioux City School District.

Such coverage ramped up last year with the hiring of Juan Cordova of Missouri as superintendent, and then accelerated after he shortly thereafter was placed on two leaves of absence.

Now Cordova is gone, after he resigned earlier this year.

There is a lot to discuss on the moves that took place in school board meetings concerning Cordova;s tenure, and now the board is back aiming to hire a new superintendent.

Once Cordova officially departed at the end of March, longtime district administrator Jim Vanderloo has been serving as interim superintendent.

Vanderloo is my guest for this What’s The Frequency episode.
He discusses his lifelong work in K-12 schools, coming from a big family of Sioux City School District educators.

He also shares why educating students such an important task for our society.

Since 2022, the distinct has has four superintendents, with Vanderloo, Cordova, Rod Earleywine and Paul Gausman. Vanderloo said that is a lot of change, and there is a definite need for healing and stability in the school system.

He is among the three superintendent finalists.
The others are Will Pickens III, a top official in the Chicago Public Schools system, and Tim Miller, an administrator who works for a Texas school that was the place of a high-profile school shooting in 2022.

Community forums for the three finalists will be held at the downtown school administration building on April 29. The forum for Miller will be held at 4 p.m., with 5:15 p.m. for Pickens and 6:30 p.m. for Vanderloo.

People can submit possible questions for the candidates by April 24 at https://tinyurl.com/4kx45ztz. A job offer to a superintendent candidate could be extended by early May, for a position to begin in July.
