Several weeks ago, when I pondered a show that could run on Valentine’s Day Weekend, I wasn’t sure how to proceed.
I wasn’t sure what themes and content would work best to illuminate the holiday, although I kept hanging onto the idea that maybe there was a show to be done on the vague concept of LOVE.
The Love Episode, so to speak.
But what would that actually contain?
One of my favorite things to air in What’s The Frequency shows are Siouxlanders sharing their thoughts about hot topics or how they live their lives. But I had my doubts that people would willingly discuss their views on love, how they feel about it, how many times they have been in it, and so on.
But as this week got closer, I would not give up on the idea.
It came to me.
I brainstormed a list of questions in the vein of love and romance and infatuation. I came up with more than a dozen such questions, and decided to write them in a notebook and show the list to people on the street, and have THEM pick which two they most wanted to answer.
SO, That’s what I did, and I set out to find people who might take part.
I ultimately posed that to people one morning, and had less people than anticipated decline to take part.
It turned out a broad range of people smiled and wanted to share thoughts for this Love Episode. What you will hear over the next half hour-plus is an equal number of men and women, from age 18 to 73.
As a plus, through a connection with the Girls Inc. organization in Sioux City, we got some children up to age 10 in answering the question, “How can you tell when a person is in love?” and you will hear those as well.
Among the music clips you will hear, as a person who has a conflicted view of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to include “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division. But what I heard from the Siouxlanders on this show, who live in Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff and South Sioux City, made me feel more positively about the holiday.
The generations who will hear from include people who are Gen Z, Generation X, and we will start here with a Baby Boomer, Kevin Conklin, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
