For this episode of What’s The Frequency, we have reached the final week of 2024, which flew by for sure.

It seems like this time last year, I was readying for the legislative years that would soon get underway in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska, and also prepping for the November election ahead, which included a presidential election.

I was also coming up with ideas on features that would show how we live in Siouxland, with new trends in education that soon played out, plus many more notable festivals and annual events that were coming up.

All that was eventually shared here at Siouxland Public Media in daily newscasts, plus our longer five minute News Extras, and my weekly What’s The Frequency show that runs for a half hour to an hour.

So with this being the end of the year, I am bringing back some of the most notable pieces we brought to listeners.

Some of these have the best quotes that people shared, others illuminate some of the most important things that happened over the year, such as the recovery from a devastatingly damaging flood, and yet others are just my personal fun favorites.

We start with one of our sports features, which centers on the University of Iowa women’s basketball player who a few days ago was named the Time magazine sportsperson of the year, who has a namealike in Siouxland, for this piece that aired in March.

Beyond that Caitlin Clark segment, there are pieces on the rebirth of a Sioux City neighborhood, a controversy on a Siouxland private school not letting a transgender college student carry out a practicum in the school, and a bevy of coverage on the June flooding that impacted Siouxland, including a harrowing rescue in a river.

There's more on the presidential election won by Republican Donald Trump, a rare mariachi band in aSiouxland high school (which earlier this week was also broadcast on the NPR show "The World"), and lots more.
