DES MOINES, Iowa — State officials say voter turnout on Tuesday was the highest it's been for a midterm election in three decades.
More than 63 percent of registered voters turned out to vote with nearly 1.4 million ballots cast statewide.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says voter turnout was very significant and about 70 percent of voters cast their ballots through early in-person voting.

People took it seriously. If this trend continues, our county auditors will have to modify some of the process to accommodate people, so we're not having long lines. But I think that's a good problem to have that kind of turnout.
Pate says no major issues were reported across the state, and he doesn't anticipate any recounts on statewide or congressional races.
