Iowa gas prices move higher above $4 the first week of October

The weekly yo-yoing of unleaded gas prices in Iowa continued into the first week of October, with an increase of seven cents for the week to reach $4.30 per gallon.

The average Iowa price has gone up in three of the last four weeks since September. The new average price of $4.30 compares to the price in Iowa one year ago, of $2.79 per gallon.

The price for self-service unleaded gas prices in the tri-state region also continues to hover near the average price nationally.

The average unleaded price nationally is $4.37.

The cost for diesel fuel reached historic highs the last two months, and after some drops sits at $6.04 in Iowa. One year ago, the Iowa diesel price was $3.44.
