Sioux City officials are seeking to land a new firm for naming rights of the downtown events center.
The Sioux City Council in its Monday meeting approved a measure to conclude the naming rights with the Tyson business, as both parties desired.
The naming rights as the Tyson Events Center were set 25 years ago in October 2001. Mayor Bob Scott on Tuesday told Siouxland Public Media News there is no hurry to get those new naming rights finalized.
The move allows city staff to pursue a new license and naming rights agreement, which could come with increased sponsorship revenue for the stadium. Tyson Fresh Meats had been paying $200,000 annually.
All Tyson names and marks on the center can start to be removed on October 1. There will be a permanent display noting Tyson’s historic role in the facility. The agreement also says that Tyson Foods will be the sole protein provider for vendors selling food products.
The facility can hold up to 10,000 people for events such as concerts, sports events, and other large events.
