Three teachers from Northwest Iowa are among the finalists for the 2027 Iowa Teacher of the Year honor.
The Iowa Department of Education on Friday announced nine teachers from across the state have been selected as the Iowa Regional Teachers of the Year.
Roselyn Schillerstrom, an English language arts teacher at the West Lyon School District is the Northwest Regional Teacher of the Year.
The Prairie Lakes Regional Teacher of the Year is Abby Goodlaxson, a physical education and health teacher at the Okoboji Community School District
Lynne Glackin, an elementary education teacher in the Woodbine School District, is the Green Hills Regional Teacher of the Year.
The area honorees were selected for achievements in K-12 instruction and positive impacts on student outcomes and success. The process for picking the state’s teacher of the year changed three years ago, with regional honorees first announced, and the winner will come from that group some weeks ahead.
The current 2026 Teacher of the Year is Stephanie Pritts, of the Sheldon Community School District
The Iowa Teacher of the Year serves as an education ambassador for the Iowa Department of Education and a liaison for educators, students and families across the state.
