There was a debate for the U.S. Senate candidates in Nebraska, where incumbent Republican Pete Ricketts and Independent Dan Osborn chewed over questions Tuesday at the state fair.
Ricketts and Osborn discussed the economy, tariffs and affordability, the war with Iran and lobbed criticisms at the other.
Even though Osborn is an Independent, Ricketts called his opponent "Democrat Dan" about 25 times. Osborn asserted that his campaign is “powered by the people” and small-dollar donations from Nebraskans.
According to Federal Election Commission totals, about 37 percent of Ricketts’ campaign dollars came from Nebraskans, compared to 17 percent of Osborn’s.
Ricketts and Osborn agreed President Trump’s decision to let in more foreign ground beef imports for 90 days would not help Nebraska’s ranchers and beef market.
Ricketts is a former two-term governor. Osborn also ran for the U.S. Senate two years ago, losing to Republican Deb Fischer by 7 percentage points.
