The City of Storm Lake on Thursday lifted a Mandatory Water Conservation order.
Mandatory conservation was ordered in mid-July.
At that time, two of the City’s wells were out of production for repairs and testing. Despite an earlier voluntary conservation program, water usage was nearing maximum capacity for the City’s treatment and clear well systems.
Both wells have now been returned to service, and seasonally-high water use is expected to decline somewhat as September begins.
City Manager Keri Navratil said steady population growth has contributed to an increased demand for water in Storm Lake. The City has responded by constructing a new water tower and developing new wells, with planning in place for a larger water treatment plant to serve in the years to come.
