Monday was a huge day for educational institutions all over Sioux City kicking off another year of learning.
That was true for the Sioux City School District, Western Iowa Tech Community College and Briar Cliff University.
Sioux City Schools Interim Superintendent Jim Vanderloo and other members of the district leadership team welcomed students back in a host of schools. The district will educate more than 14,000 pupils in the year ahead.
August 24 was the first day that classes could be held in Iowa K-12 districts, and Sioux City and others in the area chose to start on this day. Bishop Heelan High School students begin on Tuesday, although the freshmen class started Monday.
In other states, South Sioux City in Nebraska began the year on August 13, and Dakota Valley in South Dakota chose August 18.
One other Sioux City college, Morningside University, started on August 20.
