An important road in North Sioux City has reopened after being damaged by historic McCook Lake flooding in June 2024.

Back in March, the North Sioux City Commission awarded a $3.7 million contract to low bidder Reede Construction Inc. for the Northshore Drive reconstruction project.

A payment of $1.2 million was approved by the North Sioux City Commission on Monday as the most recent amount going to Reede.

The road reopened late Monday. Some minor work remains to be done on linking up with home driveways, City Administrator Jeff Dooley said.

The flooding event severely damaged many homes throughout the area and Northshore Drive.

The opening of Northshore Drive came just in time for the beginning of the school year at Dakota Valley. That street is the main way to reach the DV schools.

Metro schools began the year last week at the South Sioux City School District, and Sioux City Schools students will start their studies on August 24.
