Salix Iowa city officials have set Thursday evening as the new date to hold a city council meeting in which a possible moratorium on data centers could be voted on.
The originally planned meeting on August 12 was postponed due to "death threats and terroristic threats," Mayor Kevin Nelson said last week.
Now, Nelson announced the council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Salix City Hall.
The recent threats were reported to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.
The possible creation of a data center has been a controversial topic in the town of 300 residents. In the most recent July meeting, more than 100 people filled the building. Some said a center would harm a quaint way of life, while others pointed to the economic benefits of jobs.
At that July Salix council meeting, the members voted 3-2 in support of a concept of such a one-year pause. There needs to be one more council vote to fully implement the moratorium.
The Google firm, which has many data centers across the nation, including Iowa, announced last week the company is in the early stages of evaluating a Salix site for a data center.
*Also on Tuesday, Salix residents can vote to fill a vacancy on the city council. A council member resigned, and former councilman Tim Skidmore was appointed.
However, people petitioned to have a special election, and voting ends at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Skidmore is the only person on the ballot.
