The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is hosting its 160th Homecoming Celebration Powwow starting Thursday.
After Chief Little Priest and other Winnebago veterans returned home from serving as peacemakers for the United States government, a celebration was held in their honor. This event began the annual tradition of honoring Winnebago veterans.
Jeffery Berridge, Chairman of the Homecoming Powwow, told Siouxland Public Media the powwow is a way to remember, honor, and thank Winnebago veterans.
Berridge said it's a way to welcome them home with a celebration that they deserve.
He added the powwow is also a way to keep their traditions alive.
The homecoming powwow will include traditional songs, dances, and foods. It will run through Sunday, July 26, 2026.
