A new child center that costs roughly $1 million is poised to open in Moville, Iowa.

A ribbon cutting for the Moville Area ChildCare Center will take place on Wednesday late afternoon.

A study on whether the town of 1,800 people had enough day care options showed a need, so city and county officials worked with the nonprofit economic development group, Moville Community Development Association, to advance the project.

The licensed day care facility is located in an unused wing of the local Methodist Church, with the Crittenton Center serving as the operating entity. People from surrounding areas such as Climbing Hill, Correctionville, and Pierson are also anticipated to use the services.

Last year, the project received a $450,000 Economic Development Match Grant from Missouri River Historical DEvelopment, for Woodbury County projects that show high levels of collaboration.

MRHD Board President Sarah Kleber said the day care facility will improve quality of life for Woodbury County residents. The project also received $150,000 from Woodbury County, and had considerable fundraising.
