The Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $40 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan to the City of South Sioux City on Thursday.
According to a release, the loan will support upgrades and expansions to the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
It also says the loan will help South Sioux City install new systems to treat wastewater, reduce costs for residents, and protect local waters.
The release states the loan will allow the city to collect and sell natural gas to a nearby gas facility, adding it will offset rate increases and create affordable energy.
